To this day, we find her canvases all over Quebec, Ontario, France and the United States and she exhibits permanently at the Manoir Belle-Plage in Carleton-sur-Mer. Her paintings are in galleries in Baie-Saint-Paul, Les Éboulements, Île d'Orléans as well as at her gallery, La Dame Blanche de Boischatel, which she inaugurated in 1993. Established in Quebec in 1989, she continues to express herself through her paintings and participates in symposiums and exhibitions including the YMCA and Complexe G in Quebec City. Henriette Audet was born in Maria and has been painting for many years. We must therefore arouse pride in the descendants that we are of the "race" of these men and women who bequeathed us their language, their culture, a nation. It took a lot of courage and the hope of a better life to cross the Atlantic and settle in a distant and unknown country. The couple had 11 children, one of whom died at birth. Subsequently, he lived on his land in St-Jean, Ile d'Orléans, with his young wife Magdeleine Després who was one of the 764 'Filles du Roy' sent by Louis XIV to populate his Canadian colony. Nicolas Audet arrived in New France around 1663 and worked as a porter for Bishop Laval in Quebec. Among the descendants of this Nicolas Audet dit Lapointe, some have retained the name of Audet, while others have chosen to bear that of Audette or Lapointe. Why the Lapointe? Because they too have for ancestor Nicolas Audet who bore the nickname of Lapointe. We find in these volumes the ancestors of the Audet and the Lapointe from our region and elsewhere. Her project having been chosen, she produced her two paintings, while respecting the requirements imposed on her by that era (1663-1673).įollowing approval of the paintings' contents by historians, these are now on the cover pages of the Genealogical Dictionary of the Audet and Lapointe families, volumes 1 and 2, totaling nearly 2,000 pages of information. The artist Henriette Audet, originally from Maria, presented to the selection committee the vision she had of the arrival of her ancestors. It was also during this gathering that the opening of a competition to produce two paintings representing the arrival of Nicolas Audet and Magdeleine Després in New France was announced. In the summer of 2012, the Audet dit Lapointe annual gathering took place in Maria and all those present greatly appreciated the warm welcome and the generosity of the "Gaspésiens". It was during this event that paintings by Henriette Audet (a painter from Carleton-sur-Mer) which appear on the cover pages of the two volumes of the Genealogical Dictionary of Audet and Lapointe Families were unveiled. (A.L.) On September 21 and 22, 2013, the annual gathering of the Association des Audet dit Lapointe was held in Quebec City. Published in Le Transgaspésien, Wednesday, November 13, 2013.
